Reginald "Eric" Smith

Reginald "Eric" Smith - 73, of New Minas (most recently of Windsor), passed away Friday, January 30, 2015 with his loving family by his side, in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. He was the son of the late Reginald and Beryl (Burgess) Smith.  Eric was a loving, kind and compassionate, husband, father and grandfather who will be sadly missed. Eric managed Steadman’s, Metropolitan, and Towers department stores for 30 years. He then moved to furnishing sales and management for Andrews Department Stores, Leon’s Furniture and Jordan’s Home Furnishings. Later Eric served for eight years as a Kings County Councillor and volunteered for many committees as his true passion was to help people. Recently he was recognized by the Nova Scotia House of Assembly for his lifetime of hard work, community service and dedication to family. Eric is survived by his wife of 50 years, Carolyn (Reece); daughter, Heather (Randy Hussey), Garlands Crossing; son, Allan (Amanda Bruce), Kingston; brother, Gerald (Geraldine), Lower Sackville; grandchildren, Brooklyn, Austin, and Julia as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother, David; father and mother-in-law, Edgar and Hilda Reece; brother-in-law, Glen Sawler; and nephew, Mitchell Ells. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, February 4, 2015 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville.  The funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 5, 2015 in the New Minas Baptist Church, Reverend Sterling Gosman officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in the Lakeview Cemetery, Lakeville, Kings County. Family flowers only please. Donations in memory may be made to the New Minas Baptist Church or a local charity of one’s choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
