Carol Grace Lloyd
1923-2012
LLOYD, Carol Grace (Steele) – 88, of Kentville. The Lloyd family sadly announce the peaceful passing of their beloved Carol on May 11, 2012 at Valley Regional Hospital. She was born in Scots Bay on June 6, 1923, the first child of the late Joseph Steele and Ruth Coffill. Her schooling was in Scots Bay, Kings County Academy in Kentville, and Success Business College in Truro. In the early War years, she worked at the HMCS Dockyard in Halifax. In 1942, she joined the RCAF Women’s Division and worked in Saskatoon and Ottawa. She married Edward Lloyd on October 25, 1944. Carol was an excellent cook and enjoyed crafts, painting, gardening, sewing, crocheting, knitting, writing, Scrabble and bridge. She attended many adult education classes, including painting and flower arranging. Carol also worked at the ‘Knit and Stitch’ in New Minas. She volunteered for several years with Meals on Wheels and the Canadian Red Cross Society. In 1995, she and Ed helped found the Kings Presbyterian Church in New Minas where Carol served on the Board of Managers and as Church Archivist. She and Ed enjoyed travelling and made many trips across Canada and the U.S. They celebrated their 50th anniversary on a bus tour to Branson, MO. In the 1970s, Carol and her father began recording the Steele family history and in 2007, she published "The Legacy of George Steele and Sarah Sheffield" (ISBN 0-9781816-0-3). Carol is survived by her husband Ed; son Barry, Kentville; daughter Judith, Victoria BC; brother Cyril, Edmonton AB; as well as nieces Hope Steele (Corkum), Scots Bay; Susan Steele (Pettigrew), Edmonton; and great-nieces Amber Corkum and Suzanne Pettigrew. We are grateful for the thoughtful care provided by both the Careforce team in her home and the nurses of ‘Medical B’ in the Valley Regional Hospital. Cremation has occurred and there will be no visitation. A funeral and reception to celebrate Carol’s life will be held May 16, 2012, at 11 AM at Kings Presbyterian Church, conducted by Rev. Tim Archibald. Interment at Scots Bay Cemetery. Donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or the Last Post Fund. Funeral arrangements by White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.

I was so sad to hear about Carol passing away. She always
seemed to be a gentle person and from the time I was a little kid to
adulthood it was always a pleasure to visit with her. I am very
thankful I was able to visit with Carol, Ed, and Barry those few years
ago and my memories of that day together are very happy. I am also
blown away by the legacy she left in the form of the Steele family
history book. I have folks coming up to me in Hay River with 'Steele'
relatives and now we have the book to consult and see if indeed there
is a connection. Love to Judy; Barry and Ed--Am thinking of you
all.
