Gladys Margaret Davidson
1924-2015
Gladys Margaret (Brown) Davidson - 90, formerly
of Gaspereau, passed away at the Wolfville Nursing Home on February
12, 2015. Our beloved mother slipped away peacefully, surrounded by
love. Born on August, 27, 1924 at Black River, she was a daughter of
Robert Brown and Kathleen (Kane) Brown. In 1941 she married her
sweetheart, Cyril Edwin Davidson. They resided in Sussex, N.B. until
1942. When Cyril went overseas, Gladys returned to Nova Scotia and
worked on the Davidson Family Farm at Forest Hill. Gladys put her
sewing skills to good use during the war years and post-war years,
using her talent to make coats and dresses, usually without a pattern
and from a remnant of cloth. Her daughters were always delighted with
her creations. In 1953 Gladys and Cyril settled in Gaspereau to raise
their three children. Gladys's dedication to her family brought joy to
her life. Her children have wonderful childhood memories of family
gatherings, especially Christmas gatherings, which they will cherish
forever. Gladys was a member of Saint Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic
Church in Wolfville, serving as caretaker of the Sacristy and Altar
and Lay Minister for many years. Throughout her life she collected
books of poetry and could recite many of her favourite poems. She had
a keen interest in her Irish heritage (Kane Family Saint John N.B.)
She completed the Red Cross Home Nursing Care course and put those
skills to good use as caregiver to elderly family members over the
years. After retirement Gladys and Cyril greatly enjoyed travelling to
Western Canada and were fortunate to tour Europe twice. Gladys was a
loyal friend and she had a wonderful sense of humour which she kept
right to the end. She is survived by a son, Gerard (Ella) Davidson;
daughters, Cheryl (Alex) Smith, Theresa Corkum (Wayne, deceased), all
of Melanson; five grandchildren, Ellen Clare Davidson (Marc Costello),
Aaron Davidson, David (Jamie-Lynn) Davidson, Karen Corkum and Jonathan
Smith (Stephanie Pineo); four great-grandchildren, Hanna Davidson,
Cohen Davidson, Mia Davidson and Carter Davidson; a sister, Mary
(Howard) Coldwell, Gaspereau; two sisters-in-law, Frances Morison,
Windsor and Beverlee Brown, Greenwich. She was predeceased by her
beloved husband of 60 years, Cyril (2002); a son-in-law, Wayne Corkum
(2013); four brothers, Frank, Donald, Joseph and Murray; two sisters,
Doris Fraser and Shirley Schofield; two sisters-in-law, Bernice Brown
and Muriel (Levy) Forsythe; two brothers-in law, David Fraser and
Raymond A. Schofield; many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held
from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, February 17, 2015 with prayers to be held at
6:00 p.m. in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral
service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 18, 2015 in St.
Joseph's Roman Catholic Church Kentville, Father Craig Cameron
officiating. A reception will follow in the reception room of the
White Family Funeral Home. A private burial will take place at a later
date in St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Cemetery, Ridge Road,
Wolfville. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to St.
Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church or a charity of choice. The
family are grateful to Dr. Heather Wellwood for her many years of care
and support for Mom. Special thanks to Dr. Wayne Phillips and the
wonderful staff at the Wolfville Nursing Home for their care, concern
and compassion. Mom, we will never forget how much you loved us. May
you now be at peace and reunited with those you so loved, who have
gone on before. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White
Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
