Joyce Marion Parker

Joyce Marion Parker - 96, formerly of Glenmont, Kings County, passed away on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 in Grand View Manor, Berwick. Born in Croydon, England on May 31, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Herbert and Elsie (Wells) Bury. Joyce grew up in England and with a deep love for gardening, she pursued a formal education in horticulture. She was a proud veteran who had served with the Land Army during the second World War. Joyce met and married her husband, Lester,  in the UK, later sailing to Canada as a War Bride on board The New Mauretania in 1946.  Landing at Pier 21 in Halifax, Joyce and Lester made their permanent family home in Glenmont where together they raised their seven children. Joyce is survived by her children: Bernard (Patricia), Sussex, NB; Fay (Gary) Parker-Toole, Kentville; Howard (Doleina), West Halls Harbour; Victor (Joni Reese), Waterville; Douglas, Glenmont; Donald (Valerie), Black Rock; Leona, Harbourville; sister, Miriam, Jamaica; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Lester Earl; a grandson, Basil Parker; sister, Patricia; brother, Malcolm. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation by request. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 2, 2015 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Sarah Scott officiating. Burial will take place in the Glenmont Baptist Church Cemetery at a later date. Family flowers only by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Arthritis Society.
