Robert Freeman Johnson - Age 91, Woodville, Kings County, passed away Sunday, March 1, 2015 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Woodville, Kings County, on June 1, 1923, he was the son of Daniel Edward and Jemima Jane (Rogers) Johnson. Robert graduated from Woodville School and enlisted into the Royal Canadian Air Force, where he spent 38 months travelling to and training in Moncton, NB, Lachine, QE, Saint Thomas, ON, Souris, MB, Halifax, NS and finishing in Comox, BC when the war ended. Robert then returned to Woodville where he purchased a farm and began his life long career of farming. During this time he also worked at Fundy Fertilizers Ltd. and later as a Commissionaire at the Kentville Research Station (1973-1995). Robert thoroughly enjoyed playing and watching baseball/softball and tennis, but most of all he loved to play cribbage and other card games (even on an iPad). He is survived by his beloved wife, Marion Lavinia (Haines); children, Joan Hunter, R. David (Phyllis) Johnson, Sandra Johnson, Elaine (Tom) Kane, Karen (David) Palmer, Gregory Johnson (Tammy Singleton), Garry Johnson (Deborah McDermott), Brian Johnson (Donna Tracey), Charlene Johnson, Anthony Johnson (Kim Crocker); sister, Edna Martin; grandsons, Dan Johnson, Robert Kane, Darcy Johnson and Devon Palmer; granddaughters, Charmaine Kane, Belinda Johnson, Joelene Johnson, Kayla Crocker and Samantha McDermott, great grandchildren, Patrick Johnson, Raven Rose Kane, Gavin Butler, Lucis Butler, Alyshia Kane, Sonya Kane, Tyler Zinc, Abbygail Thomson and Dante Johnson; great great grandchildren Colten and Abel; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by an infant sister, Violet; a sister, Susan (Rupert) Martin; brothers, Arthur (Vera) and Kenneth Johnson. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation by request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 5, 2015 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Pastor Christina Bigelow officiating. A private family burial will take place at a later date in the Lakeview Cemetery, Lakeville. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
