John Alfred Laing

John Alfred Laing - 66, of Kentville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at home. Born in Kentville, on February 6, 1949, he was a son of Anne Laing, Berwick, Nova Scotia and the late Alfred Laing. John was a C.P. Rail locomotive engineer, retired in 2005 and returned home to Nova Scotia from British Columbia. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, skier and lover of the Blues. He enjoyed the company of family and friends often. His time spent in the Rocky Mountains brought him many hours of pleasure. His love of cooking saw many friends around the table with great discussions about American politics. John’s laugh and sense of humor will be missed. John is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Ross-Laing and their sons, Ben (Tammy Stowell and Michaela), Comox, British Columbia and David, Vancouver, British Columbia; his mother, Anne Laing, Berwick; mother-in-law, Jean Ross, Kentville; sister, Pat Melanson (Dennis), Lakeville; brothers, Jeff (Susan) and Peter (Krista), Kentville; sisters-in-law, Marilyn (Edward), Moncton and Faye (Gerry) Martyn, Cherry Hill; brothers-in-law, Robert (Mary), Fort Mouton; Bruce (Heather), Port Williams; Paul (Cindy), Kentville; numerous nieces and nephews and many great friends. He was predeceased by his father, Alfred and sister, Cathy. At his request there will be no visitation or funeral service. A Celebration of Life will be held from 11:00 - 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 24, 2015 in the Woodville Community Center, Woodville. Arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
