Mildred Hazel passes away at age 100

Mildred Velma Hazel - 100, of Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville, formerly of Canning, Kings County, passed away Saturday, March 21, 2015 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Kentville, she was a daughter of the late Earle and Hattie (Sheffield) Barkhouse. She had been a member of the Canning Senior Citizens and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion, Kings Branch No. 6, Kentville. She is survived by five daughters, Betty Sheffield, Kentville; Shirley Wood, New Minas; Audrey Ward, New Minas; Ruth (Allan) Ettinger, Steam Mill; Joan (Victor) Cox, Sheffield Mills; two sons, Allison (Gladys), Canning and Delbert (Winnifred), Sheffield Mills; a sister, Valerie; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Augustus; a son, Malcolm; two sisters, Redenta and Helen; six brothers, Norman, Willis, Murray, Hollis, Leon and Bob; a daughter-in-law, Mildred; three sons-in-law, Bev Ward, Murray Sheffield and Harold Wood; three grandchildren, John (in infancy), Robert and Sylvia. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2015 with a Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary service to be held at 7:00 p.m. in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 26, 2015 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Gary Manthorne officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in the Hillaton Cemetery, Kings County. Donations in memory may be made to the charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
