Jean Catherine Kennedy

Jean Catherine Kennedy - 99, formerly of Stewiacke, passed away peacefully in Shannex - Orchard Court, Kentville on Friday, April 24, 2015.  Born in Dutch Settlement on January 17, 1916, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Ida (Isenor) Ashley. She spent most of her adult life in Stewiacke. A wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Jean dedicated her life to her church, her community and her family. She was a member of St. Andrew's United Church, where she had been active with the UCW. Jean loved to bake and cook and all visitors were invited to stay for a meal and when they departed took gifts of her baked goodies. She loved to knit and all her children and grandchildren have afghans to remember her by. On Christmas Eve the grandchildren and most of the great grandchildren hang stockings knit by "Grammie K". She is survived by two daughters, Shirley (Vernon) McLearn, Kingston; Edie (Barry) Dares, Moncton, New Brunswick; a son, Ed (Diane Webster), Ottawa, Ontario; a brother, Hardy Ashley, Kingston; grandchildren, Duane (Tara) Kennedy, Kristi (Chris) Dodier, Chris (Chrissy) McLearn, Stephanie (Elton) DeGenova, Lisa (Andrew) Mitton, Kevin (Jennifer) Dares; nine great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Fred in 1957; three infant children, Brenda, Jane and Thomas; sisters, Iva Frosst, Freda Jollimore and Marjorie Ashley; brothers, Lloyd, Earl, Murray, Wilfred, George, Monson, Donald and Ray. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville. There will be no visitation by request. The funeral service and reception will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 1, 2015 in the New Covenant Community Church, Cambridge, Kings County, Pastor Bruce Patstone officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Stewiacke East. Family Flowers only by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or to a charity of your choice.
