Valerie Graham Downie

Valerie Graham "Val" Downie - 68, of Kentville, passed away peacefully with her family by her side, on Thursday, April 30, 2015 at Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, she was a daughter of the late Russell and Jean (Westwater) Randall. After moving to Canada in 1967, she was employed in the central laboratory of the Toronto General Hospital, for 32 years. In 1998, she and her husband, John, moved to Kentville where she worked as a Ward Clerk in the Valley Regional Hospital from where she retired. Val was an excellent bowler, she had a sharp mind, enjoyed playing darts, horseshoes, and Facebook games. She is survived by her husband of 33 years, John; daughter, Dawn (Burt) Benjamin, Coldbrook; granddaughter, Maddi; sister, Jennifer (David) Reimer, Toronto, ON; step-sons, Ian James John (Karin) Downie, Ajax, ON; Scott (Maureen Brine) Downie, Toronto, ON; grandchildren, Patrick, Brian, Emma, Henry, Shannon, and Chelsea; great grandchildren; and special friend, Rosemary Kalina, Toronto, ON. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation by family request.  A memorial gathering will be held from 4:30- 6:30 pm Sunday, May 3, 2015, in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. Family flowers only. Donations in memory may be made to Valley Hospice Foundation or a charity of choice.
