Leslie St. Clair (Lucky) Mahar

1926-2015

Leslie St. Clair (Lucky) Mahar

Leslie St. Clair Mahar (Lucky)     August 10, 1926 – May 4, 2015

Lucky was born on August 10, 1926 in Cambridge, Nova Scotia, the son of William Allan and Nellie Mahar. He died on May 4th, at Orchard Court nursing home in Kentville. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Helen Mahar, his son, Bill (Susan) Mahar, his daughters, Clara (Neil) Norton, Barb (Larry) Wilson, Louise Seney (Steven Gessey), and Helen (Greg) Young. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, and his sisters, Marguerite, Hazel, Doris, and Frances.

Lucky was a Veteran of World War II, serving in the Medical Corps in Halifax, Borden and Petawawa.

Most of his career was spent working as an orderly at the Sanitorium in Kentville and then the Miller Hospital. He spent many years working part-time at Taylor, McLellan & Cochrane as their cleaner. Lucky’s free time was spent playing his guitar and singing old country classics, fishing, and going for drives in his 1978 blue Ford F150. Many hours were spent manicuring the lawns and gardens at his home on Campbell Road. He loved family dinners and get-togethers. Lucky was most comfortable dressed in his jeans and a plaid flannel shirt and that is how we want to remember him. Visitation is Friday (May 8th) from 6-8pm, with a Legion service at 7pm. We invite anyone who knew him to come dressed in their ‘plaid and jeans’.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 9th at 1pm at White Family Funeral Home in Kentville, with burial following at Cambridge Baptist Church cemetery. Immediately following the graveside service, the family welcomes you to their home at 22 Hayden Drive in Berwick, for remembrance and refreshments. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.

Thanks go out to the staff at Orchard Court in Kentville who took good care of Lucky during his last months and to the staff of Careforce who provided in home care prior to that. Both were much appreciated by Lucky and his family.
