Phyllis Marie (Franey) Foster - 90, of Cambridge, Kings County, passed away Monday, June 29, 2015 in Shannex - Orchard Court, Kentville, with family. Born on June 11, 1925 in Weston, Kings County, she was a daughter of the late Melbourne and Edith (Newcomb) Franey. Finishing high school, she worked four years for the Royal Bank of Canada and then entered the Halifax Infirmary School of Nursing, graduating in 1948. Following graduation, her career included private duty, BFM Hospital and Nursing Superintendent for the County of Kings. Later, she joined the Family and Children Services of Kings County, where she enjoyed working with children, foster parents and the Community Residence Program, retiring in 1989. She was a member of the Berwick United Church, the United Church Women and the Cambridge Women's Institute. Phyllis was very devoted to her children and home, where many enjoyed her delicious meals and baking. She dearly loved her grandchildren, making yearly snapshot albums for them. She enjoyed travelling with her husband, George and spending special family times together. She is survived by three sons, Derek (Caroline), Amherst; Barrett (Sandra), Halifax; Michael (Lynn), Grafton; a daughter, Michelle (John) Forsythe, Coldbrook; grandchildren, Zachary Forsythe, Ryan Foster, Scott (Ulanee) Foster, Kelly Lynn Foster, Nicholas and Darcy Foster, Shawna (Dwayne) Acton, Deanna (Jeff) Trenholm; seven great grandchildren; a brother, John (Frances) Franey; many special nieces and nephews; her best friend, Anita (Foster) Potter, Berwick. She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, George Edward Foster (in 2003); a brother, Albert; a twin brother, Phyllip (in infancy); a sister, Frances Wilkinson. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation, by request. A graveside prayer service will be held for family and close friends at 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 3, 2015 in the Cambridge Cemetery, Reverend Ivan Norton officiating. Donations in memory may be made to the charity of your choice. A special thank you to the staff of Shannex - Orchard Court and Dr. Sinclair and Dr. Gunn.
