Joyce M. Aker

It is with sadness that the family announces the passing of Joyce Mary Aker of New Minas on July 1, 2015 at home. Born on November 22, 1938 in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Bert and Ella (Beach) Ivey. She was a long-time employee of the Dairy Queen and Ken-Wo Golf and Country Club, both in New Minas. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family, bowling, playing cards and was active with her TOPS group. She is survived by four daughters, Catherine Aker (Mike Sichky), Berwick; Janice (David) Myre, Australia; Cheryl Aker, Truro; Rhonda Aker (Jonathan Service), Lower Sackville; three sons, Tony (Janet Specht), Kentville; Richard, British Columbia; Scott, Kentville; a sister, Violet Mitchell, Fall River; a brother, Robert Ivey, New Minas; nine grandchildren, Nicole, John, Travis, Jesse, Cody, Jordan, Sierra, Olivia and Lexxy; six great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Joseph "Joe"; an infant daughter, April; an infant son, Mark; step-father, George Kaufman; three brothers, Albert "Sonny", Patrick and Gerald Ivey and her dear companion, Murray Herron. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation by request. A celebration of her life and reception will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, July 6, 2015 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. Burial will take place at a later date. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Lung Association or to a charity of your choice.
