Greta Mae Swindells

Greta Mae Swindells - 91 of New Minas, passed away Saturday, July 11, 2015 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Medford, she was the first born daughter of the late Wilfred and Lulu Belle (Greene) Taylor. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary, Royal Canadian Legion, Habitant Branch  No. 73, where she held the position of President, Past President and in 2006 she received the Meritorious Service Award. She was a life member of both the United Church Women and the Women's Institute of Nova Scotia. The highlight of her 90th birthday was riding shotgun during a trip up Mount Washington with her family. She enjoyed knitting, sewing and quilting. She is survived by a daughter, Linda Swindells, New Minas; a son, Keith, Dartmouth; four sisters, Alice Fraser, Canning; Joyce (Roy) Lyons, Scotts Bay Road; Marilyn Taylor, Medford and Edna (Hugh) Taylor, Minden, ON; three grandchildren, Sheri (Ernest) Becker, Dover, New Hampshire; Christopher (Sonia) Swindells, Halifax and Chad Swindells, Dartmouth; a great grandson, Colin Becker; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Ivan; four sisters, Valerie Bigelow, Wilda Spicer, Annie Winchester and Margaret Milbury; a brother, Archibald "Archie". Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, 2015 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date in the Habitant Cemetery. Donations in memory may be made to the Orchard Valley United Church, New Minas; Emmanuel United Church, Kingsport; Kidney Foundation or a charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
