Peter Paul Poberezny

1933-2015

Peter Paul Poberezny

Peter Paul Poberezny - 82, of New Minas, passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2015 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Windsor, Ontario, he was a son of the late John and Julia (Krosendosky) Poberezny (formerly of the Ukraine).  He served in the First Battalion Black Watch and the regular forces in Gagetown and Camp Aldershot. Peter worked for several local garages in the Valley, including Milne's Garage and Evangeline Motors. He also worked part-time for the West Nova Scotia Regiment for 14 years. Peter loved to do woodworking, puzzles and was an avid sports fan. He loved his home and looking after his property. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Peter put up a brave fight, with such grace against cancer and a massive stroke, confining him to a wheel chair for over 11 years. However, with the care from his wife and the VON Home Care, he was able to stay at home. These special women helped us in our daily life during those years and we thank you so much. We couldn't have done it without you. Thank you to family and friends who visited and helped in any way. You know who you are - thank you. Thanks to our church family for your calls, visits and prayers. Peter is survived by his wife, the former Elizabeth Barkhouse; son, Christopher (Jennifer), Kentville; step-sons, Steven, Grande Prairie; David (Cherri), Ontario; Mark, Calgary; five grandchildren, Riley, Tyler, Sara, Kyle and Amber; two great grandsons, Dyson and Jaxon. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by three sisters, Kathy, Ann and Claire; a brother, Richard. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation, by request. A celebration of Peter's life, followed by a reception, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 5, 2015 in the New Minas Baptist Church, Reverend Sterling Gosman officiating. Donations in memory may be made to the Annapolis Valley Victorian Order of Nurses, the New Minas Baptist Church or the charity of your choice.
