Evelyn "Mona" Rice

Evelyn "Mona" Rice - 95, of Wolfville, passed away Sunday, August 2, 2015 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Milltown, New Brunswick, she was a daughter of the late Guy and Lena (Loney) Rankine. In 1942, she graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Royal Victoria Hospital School of Nursing in Montreal. After Mona married her late husband, Dr. William "Bill" Rice, she was very active in St. John's Anglican Church, Wolfville and Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Wolfville. Mona enjoyed duplicate bridge, knitting, curling, dancing, life in general and everyone she knew. She is survived by three sons, Peter (Lynda), Wolfville; Robert (Brenda), Ohio, USA; Charles (Karen), Ontario; two daughters, Deborah, Mexico; Elizabeth Rice (Cluny Maher), Tupperville; ten grandchildren; five great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy; two brothers, Chum and Johnny. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation, by request. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 12, 2015 in St. John's Anglican Church, Wolfville, Reverend Sandra Fyfe officiating. Burial will take place in St. John's Anglican Cemetery, Wolfville. Donations in memory may be made to the Valley Regional Hospital-Carey Me Fund or the charity of your choice. The family would like to express special thanks to Jeanette Kerr, for 32 years of dedicated support to the Rice family; to Denise and the staff at Wickwire Place for their care and devotion; and to Dr. Hazen Burton and staff on Medical B at the Valley Regional Hospital for their sensitive care. Arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
