Randall "Herman" Gordon Gavel

Randall "Herman" Gordon Gavel - 87, of New Minas, passed away Wednesday, August 5, 2015 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Pleasant Valley, Yarmouth County, he was a son of the late Randall and Myrtle (Hurlburt) Gavel. He was the owner/operator of Valley Scrap on River Street, Kentville for many years until he retired at the age of 48. Herman enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and tending his vegetable garden. He also loved to plow snow and his granddaughters fondly remember receiving pink peppermints while he was plowing. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, the former Edna Nickerson; a son, Wayne (Ruth), Kentville; a daughter, Beverlee (Ken) Gavel-Fortner, Fredericton; six grandchildren, Brian (Danielle), Roger (Carrie), Scott, Alecia, Jennifer and Nicole (Kieran); nine great grandchildren; two sisters, Audrey and Jenny; two brothers, Donald and Darrell (Pat); several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Eudora and Lenny; two brothers, Kenny and Beige; two sisters-in-law, Marion and Myrtis. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or service by request. A private family burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to the charity of your choice. The family wishes to express their thanks to the Annapolis Valley Victorian Order of Nurses and Home Care (especially Rocky), Dr. Matt Targett, Dr. Lori Burgess, and the nurses at the Valley Regional Hospital for their kindness, care and compassion. Arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
