Dora Maude Silver
1923-2015
Dora Maude Silver - 92, of Kentville, formerly of Canning, and New Minas, passed away Thursday, August 6, 2015 in Shannex-Orchard Court, Kentville. Born in Canning, she was a daughter of the late James and Bessie (Connors) Lynk. Dora owned and operated a restaurant and store in Canning for a number of years. She was also a well-known photographer, providing community event photos to the Kentville Advertiser and the Halifax Herald. She was a founding member of the Canning Recreation Commission and the Arena Development Committee, where she was deeply involved with the establishing of the Glooscap Arena. Dora was also an honourary lifetime member of the Canning Fieldwood Heritage Society and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Habitant Branch No. 73, Canning. She was a member of Trinity United Church, Canning, where she was involved with the Ladies Auxiliary and volunteered with the Canadian Red Cross. She is survived by a son, Daniel L. "Danny" Silver (Geralda M. "Geri" Comeau), Canning; three grandchildren, Natalie, Monique and Nicole Silver; nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Silver; sisters, Laura, Jessie, Grace, Theresa and Mary; brothers, Clarence, Earl, Roderick, Gordon, Murray and John. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, August 9, 2015 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Doctor Mark Parent officiating. A reception will follow from 3-4 p.m. in the reception room of the funeral home. Burial will take place at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 11, 2015 in the Hillaton Cemetery, Kings County. Donations in memory may be made to the charity of your choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
