Elwyn Guilford "Gil" Grant

Elwyn Guilford "Gil" Grant - age 84, of Brookside, formerly of Coldbrook, passed away on Sunday, February 24, 2019 at home. Born in Canterbury, New Brunswick, he was a son of the late Audbur and Bernice (Messer) Grant. Gil was a Superintendent for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, retiring in 1994 with 42 years of service. Superintendent Grant served in Halifax, Windsor and Meteghan, Nova Scotia; Ottawa, Ontario; Vancouver,  British Columbia; Hong Kong; Toronto, Ontario; Halifax, Nova Scotia and St. John’s, Newfoundland before retiring in Lakeville, Nova Scotia. During his retirement years he held many offices within the Kentville Masonic Lodge No. 58 AF&AM, the Evangeline Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Philae Temple Shriners and the Kentville Gyro Club.  He was also a member and Past President of the Kentville, and NS RCMP Veteran’s Association. He is survived by a son, RCMP Inspector (retired) Stephen (Faye) Grant, Brookside; a daughter, Judith (Tim Young) Grant, Welland, Ontario; grandchildren, Matthew, Brandon, Chris, Sean, Joshua and Nora; great-grandchildren, Annabelle, Walker and Teddy; sisters, Sylvia Sinclair, Lois Flynn, Carol Ford; many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Marjorie "Elaine"; sister, Gail and brother, Wayne. Cremation has taken place.  There will be no visitation, by request. A combined Masonic, Order of the Eastern Star and funeral service, followed by a reception, will take place at 12:30 p.m. Monday, March 11, 2019 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Doctor John Roddam officiating. Burial will take place in the Garden of Rest Cemetery, Parish of St. James, Kentville. Donations in memory may be made to the IWK – Health Centre Foundation. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
