Steve Wohlmuth
1965-2019
Steve Wohlmuth - age 53, of Port Williams, passed away suddenly on Sunday, March 24, 2019, at home. Born in Verdun, Quebec, he was a son of Gerda (Kluth) Wohlmuth, Lower Sackville, and the late Edward Wohlmuth. He had taught at Central Kings Rural High School for 27 years, his entire teaching career. His passion to teach and to coach was seen in everything he accomplished. He was named NSTU Teacher of the year and Canadian Geographic Teacher of the month. Steve was a life-long learner with two Master’s Degrees in Education and International Athletics Coaching Certification. He loved to plan class trips for his students to share his love of geography and geology, visiting such places as Iceland and Hawaii. Steve had classes organize school supply drives to support Ifumbo Primary School in Malawi for the last 12 years. He presented for several educational conferences including two in Vienna, Austria. He was the head coach and founder of Launchers Athletics and the Launch Pad in Port Williams. He helped develop many athletes in javelin, shot put and discus who went on to become members of numerous provincial and national teams. He was also head coach to numerous Nova Scotia and Canadian track and field teams. Steve was always interested in the television and film industry and was a background performer for many television shows and a couple of movies. Steve organized the Throw for Autism and Team Heidi, raising thousands of dollars for the Acadia S.M.I.L.E. Program and the Valley Chapter of Autism Nova Scotia. Above all, Steve was an amazing husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He loved his children and was so proud of them. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Valerie (Kovac); daughters, Kaitlyn and Heidi; son, Edmund, all at home; sisters, Anita (David) Dalrymple, Upper Rawdon; Monika Wohlmuth (Patricia Harrington), Aulac, New Brunswick; brother, Ed (Brooke) Wohlmuth, Elmsdale; nieces, nephews and extended family. Besides his father, he was predeceased by his brother, Edi. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation, by request. The funeral service will take place at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, March 30, 2019 in St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Kentville, Father John MacPherson officiating. Following the service, a reception will be held in the Port Williams Community Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to the Acadia S.M.I.L.E. Program or the Wohlmuth Children Family Fund. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
