1928-2019

Leighton M. Trefry

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of the beloved Leighton M. Trefry, of Cambridge, NS. Leighton passed away peacefully on November 15th, 2019, surrounded by his loving family who meant everything to him. He was born in Yarmouth on July 24th, 1928 to the late Edna and Murray Trefry. Over the years he worked for Christies and Westons (where he was known affectionately as the "Cookie Man"), Scotian Gold, before lastly working with his son, Greg at Nova Industrial Supplies where he managed the Yarmouth branch. Leighton enjoyed  many happy times at their camp on Bird Lake. He loved a good game of Crib, bowling, dancing, woodworking, hunting and most importantly spending time with his family, especially Eleanor, his loving and devoted wife of 71 years.  One of the highlights of his life was the time he spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was definitely a kid magnet. He touched the lives of many with his bright smile, selfless personality and kind heart. He was very much loved by his family and friends. His laughter was contagious; he made everyone smile with his endless jokes, effortless charm and relentless teasing. His soul was as strong as a bear and his heart was as soft as a teddy. His spirit will live on through the lives of his loving wife, Eleanor Trefry (Murphy); his children, Susan MacKinnon (Roger Surette), Yarmouth; Greg (Linda), Delhaven; Joan MacKinnon (Bob), Berwick; his grandchildren, Marlo (Evan) Greene, Derek (Erica) MacKinnon, Jener (Ginette) MacKinnon, Heather (Georg) Ernst, Karen (Peter) Gebhardt, Devin (Sara) Trefry; his great-grandchildren, Emma and Olivia Jodrie, Jaden and Lienna Storry-Trefry, Ava and Emmett Gebhardt, Mac and Alec Ernst, Molly and Charlie MacKinnon, Oliver and Lucy Greene and Iris and Hugh MacKinnon, and his sisters Ruth (Colquhoun), Quispamsis and Pat (Rhyno), Yarmouth. He also adored his fur buddies Ali and Rusty. He was predeceased by his sisters, Adelaide, Margaret and Anne, and his granddaughter, Julie (Troy) Jodrie.
