Gerhardus "Jack" Gerrits
1932-2019
Gerhardus "Jack" Gerrits – 87, of New Minas, formerly of Sheffield Mills, passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2019, surrounded by his family, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Hardenberg, The Netherlands, he was a son of the late Berend Jan and Johanna (Marsman) Gerrits. Jack immigrated to Canada in 1953. He always had a great interest in farming and was a hog, poultry and grain farmer until his retirement. In his retirement years, together with his wife, they owned and operated an antique shop in Sheffield Mills. He enjoyed collecting until the very end! Jack was a lifelong member of the Christian Reformed Church, Kentville. He is survived by his children, Joanne (Eric) Gates, Canning; John (Jill), Sheffield Mills; Arlene (Stephen) Harbers, Lower Wolfville; Sharon (Everett) MacPherson, Canning; grandchildren, Jonathan Gates (Eve Rowsell), Shannon (Dave) Ballantyne, Hannah Gates (Dan Gallant), Jessica (Brian) Gillis, Amanda (Bill) Paré, Shane Gerrits, Weston Gerrits (Janine Radul), Matthew Gerrits, Ceilidh MacPherson, Kristen MacPherson, Rebecca MacPherson and Cameron MacPherson; great-grandchildren Jillian Gillis, Connor Gillis, Ethan Paré; James Paré, Jack Gates, Lillian Ballantyne, Bayne Ballantyne; sisters, Dina Wittenberg, Kentville; Tini (Chris) Rombaut, Coldbrook; brothers; Albert Gerrits, Kentville, Joe (Janny) Gerrits, Coldbrook; Bill Gerrits, Centreville; Gerry (Barbara) Gerrits, Port Williams; B. John (Arlene) Gerrits, Sheffield Mills; James Gerrits, Kentville; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Hendrikjen "Henny"; sister, Siny Vanderlaan; sisters-in-law, Janna Gerrits, Rinny Gerrits; brothers-in-law, Henk Wittenberg and Don Vanderlaan. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, December 6, 2019 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 7, 2019 in the Christian Reformed Church, 1315 Highway 341 Upper Canard, Reverend Duane Vanderlaan and Pastor Justin Halbersma officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall. Burial will take place in the Lakeview Cemetery, Lakeville, Kings County. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the VON Home Support for their care, kindness and compassion. Donations in memory may be made to the Annapolis Valley Victorian Order of Nurses. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville.
