Joyce Christine Coxhead

Joyce Christine Coxhead - age 83, of Kentville, passed away on Monday, February 10, 2020 at the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Yarmouth, on December 25, 1936, she was a daughter of the late Lloyd and Vera (Cann) Ritchie. Joyce graduated from Nursing School in Yarmouth, NS. She was a very dedicated registered nurse and had a full career. She worked at the Nova Scotia Sanatorium, in the office of Dr. Donald Seaman, with the VON, as a psychiatric nurse and as an occupational health nurse with Canadian Keyes Fibre Company Ltd. and Minas Basin Pulp and Power Company Ltd. Joyce was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved spending time with her family and friends. Joyce especially enjoyed time at Aylesford Lake relaxing, sailing and swimming. She was very active and enjoyed playing bridge and bowling. She is survived by her son, Dr. Brian Coxhead (Dr. Sarah Bowers), Fall River; grandchildren, Luke and Andrew Coxhead, Mikahla LaFrance, Justin Coxhead and Jillian Atwell; great grandchildren, Cooper and Jackson Coxhead, Tristan and Taylor Atwell; sisters, Mary (Al) Cooke, Moncton, NB; Marg (Randy) Smith, Hantsport; Carol (Mike) Smith, Kentville; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, John Vincent "Jack"; daughter, Kerry LaFrance; son, John Michael "Mike"; sister, Fran Nowlan; brothers, William "Bill", Stan and Paul. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation, by request. A funeral service, followed by a reception, will take place at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 18, 2020, in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Shirley Cole officiating. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Red Cross or the Valley Regional Hospital Foundation.
