Dorothy Eileen Mahar

Dorothy Eileen Mahar – 85, of Meadowview, passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2020 at home. Born in Kentville, she was a daughter of the late James Smith and Eva (Morine) Benjamin. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, homemaker and friend. Dorothy’s whole life was her family. She is survived by daughters, Patsy (Donald) Rogers, Kentville; Laverne Mahar (Ken England), South Alton; Cindy Mahar (Darrell Bezanson), Kentville and Margaret (David) Lenihan, Kentville; sons, Ronald (friend, Mary Varner), Kentville; Ted (Kelly), Prospect Road and Rick (Sandy Pickrell), Cambridge; 13 grandchildren (including Selena and Jennifer who were raised by Dorothy), 26 great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren; special niece, Sheila Lloyd, New Brunswick; special friend, Janet Boucher, Halifax, many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. She was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Harold Mahar; a daughter-in-law, Barb Mahar and having been predeceased by her siblings, she was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation by request. The funeral service will be held at a later date in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. Burial will also take place at a later date in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, Kings County. Thanks to the VON and Home Care, those girls came into her home strangers, but soon became family to us. Donations in memory may be made to Meadowview Community Centre.
