Katherine Sarah Gould

1939-2020

Katherine Sarah Gould

It is with solemn respect and sad hearts that we announce the passing of Katherine Sarah Gould, age 80, of Berwick, on Wednesday, April 29, 2020. Known simply as Kay to those whom she knew, Kay was one who wore her heart and her thoughts on her sleeve. She was a strong and opinionated woman who lived without fear or compromise, she loved a good tale, a strong cup of tea and a reason to laugh. Her presence and voice will be missed by those who called her a friend. Born on December 26, 1939 she has witnessed many changes over her long life. Kay came from a large family with deep Acadian and Mi’kmaq roots, she was no stranger to long hours and hard work. After her divorce in 1977, she raised two sons as a single mother, instilling a tradition of independence and self-reliance, as well as taking a hand in the raising of two grandchildren. A deep lover of music, her tastes ranged from country to old school rock and roll. A surprising fact to many, she was also known for liking a specific band and anthem from the ‘80s. "We’re Not Gonna Take It" will forever echo in her descendant’s ears as her call to action and will always bring a smile. Kay was predeceased by her parents, Simon Lawrence and Mary Catherine (Berry) Hubbard, as well as several siblings, Lawrence Hubbard, Mel Hubbard, Lorraine Hubbard, Francis (Hubbard) Holiday, Louise (Hubbard) Kearns, Madeline Hubbard, Theresa (Hubbard) Dodge and Anne Hubbard. She was also predeceased by her ex-husband, Lester Gould and her first son, Lee Gould. Kay is survived by two siblings, Rena (Hubbard) Cochrane and Douglas Hubbard; two sons, Gary Gould and Michael Gould; as well as grandchildren, Nikki Boisvert, Andrew Gould, Jessica Gould and Kyle Balser; and one great grandson, Olliver Boisvert Knott. By request, cremation has taken place. Kay’s cremated remains will be returned to her hometown of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, with a celebration of her life to take place at a later date. Donations in memory may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
