Michael Andrew Graves - age 62, life-long resident of Port Williams died suddenly at home on Saturday, May 9th, 2020.  Born in Wolfville on July 12, 1957, he was the second youngest son of the late William and Florence (Lockhart) Graves; loving husband of 42 years to Kim (Pietersma); a proud father of two loving daughters, Stacie and Kelly; Papa to adoring grandchildren, Cassandra, Brittney, Ryan, Michael and Keira. He was a graduate of Horton District High School. Mike worked and supported his community of Port Williams as a valued member of the Port Williams Fire Department, holding positions of Deputy Chief, Captain and Treasurer; Port Williams Recreation Committee and the Port Williams Village Operations. Mike was a Director for Softball Nova Scotia, a member of the Nova Scotia Umpire Association and was proud to receive the Provincial Award as Volunteer of the Year.  He retired from the Kentville Research Station in February 2014 after 32 years of service.  A talented athlete participating on many hockey and ball teams, an avid curler and golfer, he was a long-time member of the Wolfville Curling Centre and Ken-Wo Golf and Country Club. These activities have built strong friendships over many years. He is survived by brothers, Henry (Darlene), Aylesford; Wayne (Mary), Kingston; Perry (Kim), Port Williams; sisters, Carolyn (Fred) Laybolt, Middleton; Paula (Eric) Morine, Port Williams; sister-in-law, Debbie Graves, Port Williams; and father-in-law, John Pietersma. Aside from his parents, Mike was also predeceased by his younger brother, Tim; sister-in-law, Madeleine; and mother-in-law, Judy Pietersma. There will be no visitation by request. A celebration of Mike’s life will take place at a later date. Private family interment will take place in Starr’s Point Cemetery, Port Williams. Donations in memory may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
