Henry Lawrence Dorey – age 85, of Waterville, Kings County, passed away Monday, May 11, 2020 at the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born September 10, 1934 in South Alton, Kings County, he was a son of the late Arthur and Annie (Knockwood) Dorey. Henry was a proud Mi’kmaq who grew up beside the Gaspereau Lake, where his ancestors lived before him. He was a member of Sipekne’katik Band, Indian Brook as well as an Elder for the Native Council of Nova Scotia. Henry was a Steward and a Trustee of the Waterville United Church (Trinity Congregation), a 17-year Veteran of the Waterville and District Volunteer Fire Department and attended cardiac rehab classes at the Valley Regional Hospital. Despite having polio at a young age, he became a skilled carpenter retiring from DND Greenwood. He is survived by his wife, Bonita Hart-Dorey (Walsh); his children, David (Lisa) Dorey, Berwick; Lawrence (Laura) Dorey, Thunder Bay; Terry (Mike) Wamboldt, Windermere; Kathy Newell (Lennie Plumtree), New Minas; Donna Dorey (Derek Visser), Waterville; step-children, Irene Hart (John Hines), Aylesford; Jeff Hart (Crystal Deveau), Berwick; Pat Hart, Waterville; grandchildren, great grandchildren; brothers, Millage (Carol), Edward (Marion), Laurie (Kathy); sister, Hattie (Elmer) Sproule; daughter-in-law, Diana Dorey; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Emily (Dalton); son, Kevin; infant daughter, Elizabeth Anne and a sister, Florence Campeau. A private graveside service will take place in the Blue Mountain Cemetery. Donations in memory may be made to Valley Regional Hospital Foundation. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
