Walter Peter Prokopiw
November 16, 1946 - July 23, 2020
Sadly, Wally died at his home in Wolfville, NS. We will miss his quiet energy and consideration of others. After time teaching in Labrador he was an enthusiastic Chemistry teacher at Horton High School for many years. Wally had the spirit to nurture interest and curiosity in students. Mole Day and the annual Christmas dinner for his students and their guests (at the old school) added pepper to the scene. A keen, independent traveler, Wally was the logistics person for heaps of off-track travel from the Lut Desert, Iran to travel by local boat on the Niger River. Wally was a garden builder – starting point being lots of rocks and a barren patch. Eventually, his vegetable garden provided bounty to be shared and his raspberry canes produced about 70 liters a season. His longtime interest in photography began in his home darkroom and latterly he shifted into digital photography. His partner, Dorothy Elton survives him, while his parents, Peter and Rosalia Prokopiw, predeceased him. He leaves memories with siblings, Elaine (Rob) and Daria (Bob); nieces, Christina and Alysson and nephew, Rob as well as the Elton family in Newfoundland. Heartfelt gratitude to dear friend, Steven Chan of Hong Kong, who was available and gave without pause. Wally preferred a quiet leaving, with his family and friends remembering his life, steadfastness and kindness. Donations in memory may be made to Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada, Halifax Chapter at 50 Bedford Highway, Suite 210, Halifax, NS B3M 0J9. There will be no visitation or funeral service, by request. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
