Colleen Sylvia MacNeil

Colleen passed away peacefully on July 29, 2020 at Grand View Manor in Berwick, NS. She leaves behind her brother Darryl; her sons, Stephen Francis (Rosanne) and Daniel "Danny" Robert; and her grandson David Michael. She was predeceased by her brothers, John and Robert; sisters Caroline (in infancy), Dorothy "Cyd" Dodwell and Roberta "Bubsie" McBride; husband Francis "Frank" Mendel; daughter Debra Ann Mary; and son Gregory Brice. The daughter of the late Robert Edward and Mary Blanche (Hansen) George, Colleen was born in Parrsboro on September 25, 1930. When she was young the family moved to Delhaven. At age 16, Colleen’s first job was as a telephone operator in Canning. She married Frank, a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1953 in Chatham, NB, then proceeded to raise her family in Manitoba, Quebec, France, Alberta, Manitoba (again), Nova Scotia and finally, New Brunswick. After the Air Force years, life continued in Lawrencetown, then Coldbrook. During the Lawrencetown years, she worked in the Lawrencetown Post office and was active in the Women’s Institute and the local Arts & Crafts community. During the Coldbrook years she was active in the CWL at St. Joseph’s in Kentville. She moved to Kings Riverside Court in 2016 and recently to Grand View Manor. There will be no visitation. An invitation only funeral service will be held in the White Family Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, August 20, 2020. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, space is limited. To reserve a space, please contact Stephen or Rosanne before the 20th at 902-542-4203 and leave a message. An on-line webcasting of the funeral service will be available on Thursday, August 20 at 4:00 PM. Donations in memory may be made to St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Kentville or a charity of the donor’s choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
