As many knew, he was an avid chess player. Fred was a highly respected Elder, community icon and loved by every person from infant to Elder, they all knew Poppa Fred. He loved his Mi’kmaq language and culture, and spoke fluently in M’ikmaq and taught the language to whoever wanted to learn.
