Jean Marie (Neve) Winter

1931-2021

Jean Marie (Neve) Winter

Jean Marie (Neve) Winter - of Wolfville, age 90, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2021 at home with her loving family at her bedside. She is survived by her children: David (Tracee Chambers), Newmarket; Heather (Dave Murray), Victoria; Leah (Martin Vander Baaren), Hantsport; and Paul (Peggy), Mount Denson; as well as her treasured grandchildren: Grayson, Ethan, Benjamin, Isaac, Aidan, Owen, Laurel; niece, Liz; and nephews, Alex, Bruce, Jim. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 60 years, Ralph; her parents, Reginald and Jessie Neve; brother, Robert; and sisters, Barbara (Steer) and Margaret (McGregor). Jean was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, and enjoyed a secretarial career there with a brief sojourn in Toronto to work at one of Canada’s first TV stations. After marrying Ralph in 1956, his university career took them to Kingston, Chicago, London and Sudbury, welcoming a child in each city before moving to Wolfville in 1966. Later travels to Europe, Central America and China are captured in an impressive collection of photo albums and journals. Although her first love and priority was her family, Jean had a gift for hospitality and putting people at ease, whether they were university colleagues of Ralph’s, customers at the Box of Delights bookstore, or neighbours and friends. She had a kind and generous spirit when it came to serving her church and community, and volunteered with the Wolfville Figure Skating Club, Anglican Church Women, Flower Cart, and local food bank, to name a few. Jean was a warm, considerate, classy lady with a flair for sewing, knitting, decorating (and redecorating!) their large home on Seaview Ave. Her finest talent, according to her grandsons, was baking extraordinary cookies. She also held her own in bridge and Scrabble, and in later years always had a jigsaw puzzle on the go. She was courageous and positive to the end, despite the return of cancer. The family is grateful to the VRH Palliative Care Team and VON for their guidance and support that enabled her to remain at home cared for by family and her companion, Cali the cat. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or L’Arche in Wolfville. A private memorial service is planned. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville. On-line condolences and inquiries may be directed to www.whitefamilyfuneralhome.com.
