Peter Murray O'Brien

Peter Murray O’Brien, age 66, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, February 21, 2021, with his family by his side. He was born March 6, 1954 in Wolfville to the late Howard and Rachael (Schofield) O’Brien. Peter was a lifelong resident of Wolfville and was very respected within his town and swim community. He attended Wolfville School, Horton High School, and Acadia University. Not long after graduating from Acadia, Peter began a career at the Acadia Pool. Within a short time he became the Aquatics Co-ordinator.  He taught many swim courses at Acadia, for the Red Cross, and for the Lifesaving Society of Nova Scotia, where he obtained his Honorary Lifetime Achievement Award. While teaching courses across Nova Scotia he made personal connections that lasted a lifetime with his students, their families, and the many lifeguards he mentored.  Every person he taught was special to him. Peter is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Sylvia and his two sons, Jonathan of Fredericton, and Joseph (Laura) of Bridgewater.  He was predeceased by brothers Eddie, Gary, Howard and sisters Rowena, Marion, Phyllis, Paula. He is survived by his brother, David (fiancé Arlene Munroe) Gaspereau; and sister, Patsy Rubec (Tom) of Fredericton; as well as many nieces and nephews. Family was everything to Peter. He enjoyed hosting family gatherings, maintaining his flower garden, cooking, and spending time with people he loved. Cremation has taken place and there will be a graveside service at date to be determined.  Donations may be made to the VON Annapolis Valley or a charity of your choice.
