Ruth Enid Bigelow

Ruth Enid Bigelow – age 93, of Kentville, passed away on Friday, February 26, 2021, in Shannex – Orchard Court, Kentville. Born in Woodside, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Charlotte (Jackson) Cox. In the ’40s, Ruth worked as a telephone operator in Canning. She also worked at Kent Foods for many years and picked apples and pears for John DeWolfe. She was well known for her homemade donuts and baked goods. She was kind hearted and loving, always looking after the needs of others before herself. Later in life she became a resident of Shannex in Kentville where she began to get the same care and respect she gave to all others. Shannex became her extended "family". She received all the love back from them that she so willingly gave throughout her life. For this we are forever grateful! She is survived by sons, Steven (Monika) Bigelow, Ogilvie; John (Kim) Bigelow, Lakeville; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great great-granddaughter; sister, Joyce Parker, Scotts Bay Road; brother, Victor (Joan) Cox, Sheffield Mills; daughter-in-law, Barbara (Bruce) Raymond, Kentville; sisters-in- law, Sharon Cox, Kingston; Pauline Joyce, New Minas; many nieces, nephews and extended family. She was predeceased by her husband, Foster Bigelow; son, James; sisters, Dorothea (Harry) Hiltz, Greta (Bradford) Benjamin, Lucy (Ted) Benedict, Phyllis (Jack) Reid; brothers, Paul Cox, Bernard Cox, Kenneth Cox, Robert "Bud" (Edna) Cox and brother-in-law, George Parker.
