Lucia Maria "Lucy" (van Herwÿnen) Merks

Lucia Maria "Lucy" Merks – 88, of Wolfville, passed away Friday, March 19, 2021 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Velddriel, The Netherlands, Lucy was a daughter of the late Johannes and Wilhemina (Hooÿmans) van Herwÿnen. Besides her parents, Lucy was predeceased by her husband, John; infant son, Gerald; sisters, Anna, Maria, Magraretha; brothers, Arnold, Joannes, Cornelius, Gerardus, Theodores and Hillebrand. She is survived by her children, Diane (Peter) Porskamp, Andre (Janie), Willy (Nancy) and John (Lisa); several grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Also survived by sister, Clara; brothers, Harry, Martien, Theo and Leo. She was a very kind and loving woman, who loved her knitting, especially baby bonnets and booties for the IWK and Valley Regional Hospital. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation, by request. A private graveside service has taken place in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Kentville, with Father John MacPherson officiating. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the doctors, nurses and support staff at Valley Regional Hospital and VON caregivers for their care and kindness and a special thank you to Dr. Martin Fleckenstein for his compassion and care throughout the years. Donations in memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Valley Hospice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
