Jason Andrew Burton

1974-2021

Jason Andrew Burton

It is with devastation that we announce the sudden death of our son Jason on April 2, 2021 at the age of 46. He died a natural death due to heart disease doing what he loved in life, professional driving. Life had presented Jason with a series of setbacks but at the age of 34 he dug himself out of a hole with the love and support of his family which he accepted and his own pure determination to succeed. He was immensely proud of his success as he should have been, as are his entire family. He set goals, made plans and then followed them through, which included buying a house and becoming a professional truck broker with his own cab. He was the consummate professional driver and was dedicated to his career and very proud of the company he worked for. During his career he traversed North America, from Newfoundland to Vancouver, California, Texas and Florida and many places in between. We are especially aware and proud of his being an essential worker during this pandemic delivering food between his beloved Annapolis Valley and Quebec and Ontario. Jason was a kind, gentle, loving, respectful, big guy with a great sense of humour, a big smile and laugh to match. He remembered his own journey and was always ready to help others. He was loved by all who knew him and those that knew him knew that his big loves were his family, his house, his career, cats, food and of course, the Toronto Blue Jays. He worked very hard to make up for what he called his lost years and was enjoying making his big plans with his soulmate, Shauna, to retire in 12 years and travel the world together. Jason is the beloved son of the late Jack Burton of North Sydney and Cheryl Bowman (Jones) of Halifax and his stepdad, Syd Bowman of Liverpool, UK. He also leaves behind his soulmate of 18 years, Shauna MacConnell of Toronto and her parents, Donna and Les Zaba of PEI. He is predeceased by his uncles, Percy Jones and Elmer Jones and survived by his devoted uncles, Mel (Arlene) Burton of Burlington, Ontario and Marvin Jones of Dartmouth; aunts, Millie (Otto) Haenlein of Fort Myers, Florida; Mona Woodworth of Dartmouth and Phyllis (Gerry) Norman of Dartmouth. He is also survived by his cousins and step-siblings. A graveside service will be held at a later date which, because of COVID-19 regulations, must be by invitation only. These will be sent out by the family shortly. A memorial video tribute to Jason can be found on the White Family Funeral Home website (www.whitefamilyfuneralhome.com). A video of the graveside service will also be placed on the site by the last week of April. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jason’s memory can be made to a local Annapolis Valley cat charity, Safe Haven Animal Rescue located in Berwick. Cheques or e-transfers are accepted at the following email address [email protected]. We would like to thank all our family and friends and especially Easson’s Transport for their care and support at this sad time in our life. If Jason had any last words to impart it would be "If someone offers you support or help in your life and you need it, don’t be proud, take it and run with it!"

He will be deeply missed.
