Mildred Hazel Clarke

Harry Eagles Clarke and Mildred Hazel Clarke,
Woodville, Kings County, NS, are together again.

The family of Harry Eagles Clarke 1919-2010 and Mildred Hazel Clarke 1917–April 12, 2021. Their partnership lasted 68 years. Harry grew up in Woodville, the son of the late Thomas Albert and Lois (Eagles) Clarke, with his sister, the late Gertrude Seaman. After schooling, Harry served in the RCAF during World War II. Mildred, daughter of the late William and Charlotte (Dickie) Holt, grew up in the Hillaton area, attended schools in Canning, by horseback, Kentville via the Blueberry Special train, and Truro normal college. She taught several years in Valley schools. Mildred’s siblings were the late Alice, Bernard, Anne, Leonard, and Phillip. After meeting the handsome Harry, Mildred was smitten and a wedding was planned. They started farming in Woodville, growing chickens, potatoes and other crops. The farm was called T A Clarke and Son and became very successful, adding to it a trucking business and co-operative ventures. Mildred was very involved in every aspect of the farming operation, from grading eggs, financial controls and homemaking. Harry was one of the founders of ACA Co-operative Ltd. He was well known for potato production, growing elite seed and won numerous awards in doing so. In addition to Mildred’s farming chores, she always maintained beautiful vegetable and flower gardens, which were the envy of the village. While life was always very busy on the farm and raising two children, Harry and Mildred always found time to attend dances, card games, take Sunday drives and partake in the various community fund raising events. In later years, winter visits to Florida were in order where they became champs on the shuffleboard courts. Harry and Mildred are survived by daughter, Pamela Petrie, partner Perry Wallace; son, Peter (Janet) Clarke; grandchildren, Matthew and Todd Petrie, Jeff and Trish Clarke, their partners; nine great grandchildren and special niece, Sandra Allwright. The family would like to thank Evergreen Nursing Home for their love and special care of Mom "Posey". Cremation has taken place and a private graveside service will be held in the Lakeview Cemetery, Lakeville. Family flowers only and donations may be made to the VON Annapolis Valley chapter or charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
