Leona Marie (Fraser) Boylen

1930-2021

Leona Marie (Fraser) Boylen

With great sadness, the family of Leona Marie (Fraser) Boylen, age 91, of Centreville announce her passing on April 24, 2021 at Evergreen Home for Special Care.

Leona and her identical twin Leota were born in East Halls Harbour on January 20, 1930 to Royal Richmond and Lola Mae (Keizer) Fraser. Leona was the last remaining child of the family of eleven. She is predeceased by her siblings Lima, Elden, Raymond, Alta, Blake, Iva Mae, Lorimer, Mildred, Lola, and her twin Leota.

Leona’s wish was to marry the love of her life Paul Leonard Boylen, become a farm wife, and have four children. These things became fulfilled with her marriage to Paul on July 21, 1948, moving immediately to the family farm on Brow Mountain Road, and having Paulette Leona (Edwin Hollett), Nathan Paul (Margaret), Timothy Bruce (Patsy) and Tammy Grace (Richard McKay).

Leona was a much-loved active member of the Centreville Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, being baptized along with Paul on April 4, 1951. She would work tirelessly by his side, usually to be found in the kitchen at many conventions, until Paul’s death on November 28, 2011.  She continued her service faithfully for 70 years.

The more the merrier was Leona’s delight. This could be seen in her kitchen, in her welcoming personality, and her concern for others. Her baking, gardening, and willingness to jump in to help with any challenges the farm presented, showed her love for her husband, family and the farm life. She chose the right career.

Leona was blessed with 11 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Paulette’s family: Chantel (Chad Wilson); Chaula (Cory Stiles); Chancy (Jody); Nathan’s family: Jared (Michelle); Josh (Kelcee) and their children, Caleb and Sawyer; Abigail (Fraser DeGuire); Anna (Toby Parsons) and their son, Hunter; Jesse (Meghan) and their children, Nate and Russ; Joe and his son, Ivan; and Jed; Timothy’s family: Jonah (Cashmere) and their daughter, Evelyn.

She loved all things green, flowers, farming, fishing and especially her family. She had a special love for her canine companion Ruby who came to visit her at Evergreen, much to her delight.

Leona will be remembered by her sweet and kind personality, right to the end. Thanks to all the staff at Evergreen who treated her like family, who heard and listened many times to her family stories. She was so thankful to you all, and told her family many times, you "treat her like gold, and the food is just like home." Thanks to Evergreen gardeners. The gardens gave her great delight as we took her on walks, her pulling an out of place weed here and there, and finally as she could only look out her window and admire your handiwork.

Thank you to Dr. Jim Seaman, the nursing staff, and especially Eric, who was with her until the end.

Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held via Zoom on Saturday, May 1, at 2:30 p.m. with a photo tribute and music starting at 2:00 p.m. Zoom info: Meeting ID: 762 5353 9279 PASSCODE: 1951.  For those who wish to join the Zoom meeting by phone: 1 204 272 7920, when prompted use ID and passcode above.
