Phyllis Irene Walker
Phyllis Irene (Sweetie) Walker - 88, of Kentville passed away on April 25, 2021 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville with loved ones by her side. She was visited by all of her children, grandchildren and family friends during her long hospitalization due to complications following surgery for colon cancer. Phyllis was born in Delaps Cove on December 2, 1932, daughter of the late Harry and Etta Longmire. She leaves to mourn, the love of her life, Duane Wilson, of Kentville, and her precious dog "Teacup". Duane kept day and night vigil at her bedside during the last few weeks of her stay in hospital. Duane gave our mother the best 17 years of her life, spoiling her every day. We could not have asked for a better companion for our mother. Phyllis is survived by her long-time companion and partner, Duane Wilson; her five children, Jerry Milbury, Kentville; Billy Milbury, Tottenham; Linda (Mike) Konesky, Halifax; June Therriault, Kentville; and Allan (DJ) Milbury, Kentville; nine grandchildren, Susan Gibson, John Sabean, Roger Burnie, Darren Milbury, Cindy Milbury, Tammy (Scott) Carrington, Tara Theriault, Michael Milbury, Sarah Millbury and 12 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by two children, son, Henry Milbury (1972), and daughter Gloria Burnie (2011). She was the last surviving of her eight siblings. Phyllis grew up in modest and difficult circumstances in Delaps Cove, raising her seven children before moving to Kentville. These days were marked by the caring for her aging mother, Etta Myrtle, the matriarch of the family who died at the age of 103. Phyllis became known as the "yard sale queen" when she developed a passion for seeking out bargains at the many yard sales throughout the Valley during the summers. For over 35 years she held some of the largest yard sales at her home on Oakdene Avenue in Kentville. She and Duane enjoyed the thrill of finding a treasure and the travels through the backroads of the province while picnicking along the way. A match made in heaven. She also took great pleasure in winning the card games with her daughters and daughter-in-law, DJ. A very special thanks to our sister, June, who took great care of our mother during her long illness at home before hospitalization. Also, thanks to the wonderful medical team and staff at the Valley Regional Hospital. In accordance with Phyllis’s wishes, there will be no visitation or service. A private family interment will take place at a later date in the cemetery in Delaps Cove. Arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
