Vernon Wilbur Marshall
Vernon Wilbur Marshall – age 88, of Billtown, passed away on Monday, May 24, 2021 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. He was born on Tuesday, July 12, 1932 in South Range, to the late Gilbert and Dora (Sabean) Marshall. Vernon was the most wonderful, kind and gentle father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by son, Pat (Holly) Marshall, Port Williams; daughter, Dora (Malcolm) Gillis, Margaretsville; grandchildren, Nicole (Owen) MacGregor, Halifax; Devon (Emily) Marshall, Ontario; Katrina (Rob) Jamieson, Mosher’s Corner; great-grandchildren, Aela, Finlay and Oakleigh and brother, Ervin (Arlene) Marshall, Smith’s Cove. Vernon was predeceased by wife of 53 years, Fay Marshall; brothers, Earle and Guy Marshall and infant sister. He worked at many occupations and moved countless times within Nova Scotia and Ontario. He loved to spend his days sewing, knitting, crocheting and quilting and he was an avid part of the women’s quilting group at the Billtown Baptist Church. As an active member of the church, Vernon served as a deacon, sang in the choir and participated in many outreach programs. He loved to socialize while travelling to hymn sings and variety concerts. Vernon was a dedicated volunteer at the Lawrencetown Exhibition and especially enjoyed watching the ox pulls. He was a passionate singer in church choirs and played the organ for many years. Cremation has taken place. Due to COVID-19 pandemic and travel restrictions, there will be no visitation or funeral service at this time. Burial will take place at a later date in the South Range Cemetery. Donations in Vernon’s memory will be made to the Billtown Baptist Church, South Range Christian Church or Valley Regional Hospital.
