Julia May (Pineo) Dykens

Julia May (Pineo) Dykens – 86, of Canning, passed away in Shannex-Orchard Court on Friday, July 2, 2021. Born on July 1, 1935, she was a daughter of the late Clark and Isabel (Carter) Pineo. Julia worked various odd jobs while raising her family and taking care of the home. Once her children were grown, she was employed as a seamstress with the Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville for over 20 years. She enjoyed spending time with her husband, Arthur, at the Kentville Royal Canadian Legion, played darts for the Legion league team, attended BINGO, and loved country music. She grew up in a musical family, all her siblings and most of her children were in a band at one point, and she had a vast music collection, including over 100 tapes and records. She is survived by her sons, Terry (Barbara), Brian (Stella), Kevin (Donna) and Clarke; brother, James (Marion) Pineo; many grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband of 67 years, Arthur Dykens; son, Paul Dykens; brothers, Albert, Phillip, Hartley and Audley; and sisters, Wava Rafuse and Mary Kerr. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation, by request. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
