Catherina Elvanetta "Elva" Pineo

1941-2021

Catherina Elvanetta "Elva" Pineo

Catherine Elvanetta "Elva" Pineo – age 80, of North Kentville, passed away on Sunday, July 25, 2021 in the Valley Hospice, Kentville. Born in Sydney Mines, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Anne (MacGean) MacLean. Growing up in Cape Breton instilled a strong sense of family and tradition that would be heartily shared with everyone she met throughout the years. Early in her marriage to Jack, she left Canada for military postings in Europe with a young family in tow. Always up for a challenge, she took on the culture and language barriers while having to always be ready to move at a moment’s notice. She did manage to become a world citizen along the way, winning people over with her unique wit and Cape Breton sense of humor. Back in Canada, Elva was a proud and dedicated member of the Order of the Eastern Star where she gladly accepted the role of Worthy Matron for the local chapter. Elva also cherished her role in the kitchens of Aldershot, where she helped welcome various groups with a little touch of home. This was especially true of her time spent helping the Kosovo refugees, of whom she shared many beautiful stories. She is survived by a daughter, JoAnne (Ray) Rawding, Dartmouth; sister, Charlene (Ron) Vickers, Englishtown, Cape Breton; grandchildren, Melissa (Scott) Gillan and Benjamin Rawding (Lacy Paul); great-grandson, Kyle Rawding; friends and extended family. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Jon "Jack"; son, Charles "Chuck"; and brother, Daniel MacLean. Donations in her memory may be made to Valley Hospice Foundation. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or funeral service, by request.
