Courtney Allister Burrell

Courtney Allister Burrell (91), of Kentville, passed away on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born and raised in Kentville, Courtney was a son of the late Winslow and Gwendolyn (Sawler) Burrell. Courtney was a well-known businessman in Kentville. He owned and operated Burrell Sales & Service Limited for 43 years.

Courtney attended Kings County Academy high school where he was editor of the yearbook his graduating year of 1948. In high school, he joined the Army Cadets and played in the Bugle Band. He was a member of the KCA hockey and rugby teams and won numerous awards in track and field. Courtney was a Militia Captain (Ret’d) in the West Nova Scotia Regiment. He was a past president of the Kentville Merchants Association, the Kentville and Area Youth Association, and the Kentville Gyro Club, a member of the KenWo and Eagle Crest Golf Courses, and the Glooscap and Wolfville Curling Clubs. Over the years, Courtney enjoyed hunting and fishing, snowmobiling, woodworking, visits with family and friends, summers at the Aylesford Lake cottage and a good game of Turkeyfoot.

He is survived by daughters, Debbie (Leigh) Whalen, Lower Sackville; Sandra Burrell, Wolfville; son, Dr. Steven Burrell, Halifax; granddaughters, Jennifer (Daniel) Bonner, Beaverbank; Jayme (Devin) Meadows, Middle Sackville; great grandchildren, Luke, Natalie, Henry and Callie. He is predeceased by his parents; his wife, Anna Sarah (MacRury) Burrell; his brother, Ronald; and his sisters, Mona Campbell and Helen Chapman.

The family would like to extend sincere thanks to Wedgewood House for Seniors, Kentville and to the physicians, nurses, and staff at Valley Regional Hospital.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, September 17, 2021 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville - due to the Covid-19 pandemic and gathering restrictions, visitation will be limited to 70 guests and family (physical distancing and masks are required). A private (by invitation) funeral service will be held. A video webcast of the service will be available at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 18, 2021.
