Gary Merriam Murray

1936-2021

Gary Merriam Murray

It is with great sadness that the family of Gary Merriam Murray announces his passing on September 15, 2021, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Gary was born on May 26, 1936, the youngest of three children, to Rutherford Harris Murray and Marjorie Harriet (Merriam) Murray in Liverpool. All those who had the pleasure of knowing Gary could testify to his great sense of humour and joyous presence. Always one to crack jokes and tell stories, you couldn’t help but to smile while being around him. Gary had a long, successful career in sales that took him to Montreal, Toronto, Moncton and Halifax but ultimately, he considered his greatest achievement to be his family. He and his wife Merle moved a lot during his working years but settled in the Annapolis Valley in Cambridge, Coldbrook and Berwick where they hosted many family gatherings which will surely be remembered fondly by all those who attended. He was an avid gardener for much of his life, his tomatoes were always noteworthy. He also loved to golf and travelled often with his wife and children in his earlier years. Above all, he loved his family and friends more than anything and his presence will be missed tremendously by all those who knew him. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Merle (Dunn) Murray; daughters, Lynn (Gary) Best and Kelly (Colin Armstrong) Murray; grandchildren, Ryan (Candace) Best, Olivia and Jack Armstrong; and great grandchild, Emery.  He is also survived by his sister, Freda Judge; sisters and brothers-in-law, Robert (Janice) Dunn, Allen (Rose) Dunn and Debbie (Greg) Webster. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brother, Walter Murray. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Valley Hospice Foundation in Gary’s memory. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 in the Cambridge Cemetery, Kings County. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
