Murray Russell Dunford

1960-2021

Murray Russell Dunford

Murray Russell Dunford (former CPL), combat engineer in 2 CER, remustered to metals technician, passed away suddenly in Halifax, on Thursday, September 16 2021.

He was a loving father of Jeremy, Jessie (Jamie) and adored grandfather to Dylan, Davida, Isabelle. He was stepfather and grandfather to Jennie (Terry), James, Jade, Saphire. Murray was born in Peterbourgh, Ontario, he was a son of Wanda and the late Russell Dunford, brother to Stephen and Patti Dunford.

He proudly served in the Armed Forces from 1979 to 1992, he was affectionately known as "Chimo" by his sapper buddies.

Upon leaving the military, he studied small engine repair and worked as a motorcycle mechanic until his retirement. He also did some truck driving and tried his hand as a motorcycle instructor, but he always ended up back with wrench in his hand.

In his retirement, he like to spend time with family and friends, he spent a lot of time with his granddaughter, Davida who he shared a close bond with.

He was an extreme NASCAR fan and never missed a race. He also enjoyed working at the racetracks, doing it every chance he got. Murray’s greatest passion in life was his motorcycle and would have lived on it if possible. He would start to ride as soon as the snow was gone and wouldn't stop ‘til the roads froze again.

Murray had a great sense of humour, always leaving you laughing and shaking your head. He also had a great heart and would help anyone. He will be missed beyond what words can describe.
