Dr. Graham Clevearn Adams

Dr. Graham Clevearn Adams (84) - Born August 17, 1937 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, only son of Rufus and Maybell (Koonce) Adams. Graduated from Rocky Mount Senior High School in 1955 and while still there assisted in establishing the still-thriving Arts Center. Received his B.A. degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1961 and taught high school for a year before moving to Indiana, home state of his wife, Roberta Beckner. After teaching elementary school, he earned his M.A. degree from Indiana University in 1966. He taught in the Department of English at the University of Maine from 1966 until 1971 when he enrolled in the Ph.D. program at the University of New Brunswick which he completed in 1974. In 1977, he accepted a position at Acadia University and began a joyous and rewarding career teaching primarily courses in Shakespeare and in American literature. In addition to his teaching, he served on numerous department and university committees including two terms as Head of the Department of English and one term as a member of the Board of Governors. He wrote one book and several scholarly articles before retiring in 1997. For approximately fifteen years, he spent as much time as possible gloriously fishing the rivers and lakes around Wolfville in the company of his dearest friend, Professor Edward Eagles. He is survived by his wife, Roberta; his son, Graham Jr. (Clevey); daughter, Kim; son-in-law, Troy and grandsons, Hayden, Connor, and Sam. There will be no visitation by request. A private family service will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
