Mary Scott Barkhouse
Mary Scott Barkhouse – age 93, lifelong resident of Canning, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, November 9, 2021. Born at home on Queen Street Canning, she was the daughter of the late John and Blanche (Spicer) Thomson.
Mary was a devoted wife of 68 years. A homemaker who always enjoyed neighbourly visits. She loved singing and playing guitar, camping, Ross Creek and a good game of cards. She always had a puzzle on the go. Mary enjoyed the weekly outings at the Canning Seniors Club and was a 45 year standing member of the Canning Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Her admiration for the work done by this department stayed true to the end.
Mary is survived by her husband Merlin Barkhouse; children, Donald "Don" (Peggy) Barkhouse, Ross Creek and Kathy Barkhouse, Canning; grandchildren Christopher (Geneva) Barkhouse, Banff and Danielle Barkhouse, Edmonton; brother, Robert "Bobby" (Eddie) Thomson, Canning. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, William "Billy" (Betty) Thomson and sisters, Isabel (George) Addington and Nona (Clyde) Weisner.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 20, 2021 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. A private family interment will take place in Hillaton Cemetery, Canning. In accordance with the Nova Scotia Proof of Full Vaccination Policy, proof of full vaccination will be required to attend visitations, services and receptions held in or by the White Family Funeral Home. For those unable to attend the service, there will be a video webcast at 1:00 p.m.
