Donald Perry "Don" Donnie" Lightfoot
1933-2021
Donald Lightfoot, long-time resident and entrepreneur, 88, of Wolfville, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family following a brave and courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, November 25, 2021 in the Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville, Nova Scotia. Born in Wolfville on September 3, 1933, he was the son of the late Aubrey "Roy" and Evelyn Rose (Smith) Lightfoot. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Known by many as "Wolfville’s Barber", and later in his "memoir", the Barber of Mud Creek. Don was an entrepreneur, opening his first shop in Wolfville on Main Street known as the Razors Edge. He worked as a barber for 68 years, 25 of those years, with his daughter, Sarah. Don established real estate/rental properties and was a proud partner with his son on the farms’ poultry operation. He was a member of the Wolfville Baptist Church, enjoyed travel and running marathons, completing six! He gave graciously of himself within his community through his involvement in the Wolfville Lions Club, Kings County Housing Authority and the Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF). Always kind, dedicated and proud of his family; it is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our beloved father. Don is survived by his four children, Shelley (Gary) Kelly, Hantsport, (grandchildren, Matthew, Ryan, Mitchell; great-grandchildren, Aspyn, Gunnar); Heather Lightfoot (Chris Bezanson), Edmonton, (grandchildren, Amanda, Jordan, Hannah; great-grandchildren; Avery, Sophia, Myles, Clara, Jacob, Abigail, Frederick) Sarah Lightfoot, Wolfville; (grandchild, Emily) Michael (Jocelyn) Lightfoot, Wolfville; (grandchildren, Rachel, Kori, Michaela, Meadow, Luna); (great grandchild, Isla) sister, Sherry Pulsifer, Kentville and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by the love of his life, wife of 62 years, Barbara Kathleen (Gollan). Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation, by request. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 5, 2021 in the Wolfville Baptist Church, Wolfville, Reverend Doctor Scott Kindred-Barnes officiating. A private family interment will take place immediately following the service in the Lower Horton Cemetery, Grand Pré. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wolfville Baptist Church Elevator Fund or a charity of choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville. In accordance with the Nova Scotia Proof of Full Vaccination Policy, proof of full vaccination will be required to attend the services held by the White Family Funeral Home.
