Robert Joseph Horne

1931-2021

Robert Joseph Horne Robert Joseph Horne

HORNE, Robert Joseph (Bob) – age 90, died suddenly at home on Wednesday, December 1, 2021. Born in Dartmouth to the late George and Dorothy Horne, eldest of eight. After graduating from Dartmouth High, enrolled in Engineering at Acadia University. He ended up in Ottawa doing a job he loved with the City of Ottawa. He worked for over 30 years in the design and construction of water mains and pumping stations, being directly involved in the building of Ottawa’s new large water filtration plant. Retired in 1989 and moved immediately ‘back home’ to Nova Scotia. Chose the Valley, and, being an avid golfer, quickly joined Ken Wo Golf & Country Club. After seeing an ad for a volunteer in the New Minas Water Commission, volunteered, thus enabling him to continue with what he loved doing and to share his expertise, which was appreciated beyond words! The Commission thrived. Also, volunteered on the Board of Directors at The Flower Cart and spent many years helping the Salvation Army with their annual "kettle" drive. He was a long-time member of the Glooscap Curling Club and the Kentville Gyro Club. Other hobbies included bridge, bowling, darts, Blomidon Naturalist Association, enjoying nature and bird watching. Two other organizations that he had been seriously involved with were the Nova Scotia Swim Association, after 30 years as a master official with the Ottawa Swim Association, and the NS Senior Games. He is survived by his wife, Margaret and sons, Derek (Lynne), Ottawa, ON and Kenneth (Debra Marr), Courtenay, BC; daughters, Nancy (Peter) McConnery, Blockhouse, NS, and Ruth Horne (Lorne Johannson), Winnipeg, MB; two grandsons, Jason McConnery (Cara), Toronto, ON and Jamie McConnery (Bri), Dartmouth NS, great-grand twins, Wesley and Theodore McConnery, Toronto, ON, and step great-grandson, Jax, Dartmouth, NS; brothers, John (Winnie), Tom (Cory), Donald, Carl (Jan); and sister, Joy Stoddard. He was predeceased by his two youngest brothers, Alexander and Patrick, and brother-in-law, Douglas Stoddard. He was extremely proud of all his children and grandsons and very devoted to them all. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville on Sunday, January 9, 2022 at 12:30 p.m. (Limit 50 guests).
