1939-2022

Mary Elizabeth (Bigelow) Johnson

Mary Elizabeth (Bigelow) Johnson - 83, of Habitant, passed away on Thursday, March 31, 2022 in Valley Hospice, Kentville surrounded by her loving family. Born in Blomidon, she was a daughter of the late Burdette and Lillian Bigelow. Mary was a friend to all and was the life of any gathering. She loved playing cards, doing the puzzle in the Friday paper, and playing Radio Bingo on Monday nights. She worked at Hostess Chip plant for many years prior to moving to Ottawa in 1979. While in Ottawa, she was a Resident Property Manager at Rockcliffe Arms Apartment Building, where she met many friends who loved her dearly. She retired and moved back home to Canning to care for elderly parents in 2003. She always loved company and having laughs. She was quick witted and full of fun. She loved watching the birds and continued to feed them even when her days became difficult. She looked forward to her hummingbirds coming in May and would prepare a special mixture in her feeders just for them. Mary is survived by sons, Michael Greenwood (Cindy McClair), Habitant and Geoff (Darlene) Johnson, Ottawa; daughters, Catherine (Donnie) Kay, Dartmouth and Karen (Peter) Comuzzi, Hatchet Lake, brother John (Janet Colpitts) Bigelow, Dartmouth and sister-in-law, Mary Bigelow, Habitant. She has nine granddaughters, two grandsons, 13 great-granddaughters, two great-grandsons and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Tammy Hines; sister, Louise West; and brother, Lawrence Bigelow. The family would like to thank the staff at Valley Hospice for the exceptional care, compassion and love given to our beautiful Mother. Cremation has taken place.
