Joan Cecilia Martin

Joan Cecilia Martin, 83, formerly of Kentville, passed away on Tuesday, May 3, 2022 in Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville, surrounded by family. Born in Kentville, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Mary (Corbin) Farris.

Mom met the love of her life at Kentville skating rink and they were married for over 67 years. She went with him to Germany and across Canada living in Alberta, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and settling in Nova Scotia. Along their travels the "4 S’s" were born. She enjoyed reading, Bingo, bowling, knitting everyone dish cloths, walking on the beach in Huntington Point and traveling to Newfoundland. She once said the worst thing in life would be to lose your eyesight and not be able to read. But the worst thing ended up being dementia that robbed her of reading and all other aspects of her life.

She is survived by husband, Frank; daughters, Susan Martin (Oran Goucher) and Sandra (Bill) Philpott; sons, Stephen (Linda) and Stacy (Ashley); grandchildren, Candace, Sheri, Jason, Orrie, Tony, Nikki, Billy, Stephen, Ernest, Alex, Gavin and Jack; 12 great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren; brother, Robert (Shirley) Farris; sister-in-law, Betty (Tim) Parsons; brother-in-law, George (Vera) Martin; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by sister, Shirley; brother, Ron; parents-in-law, George and Irene (Rolls) Martin; brother-in-law, Arthur; and sisters-in-law, Irene, Hilda and Judy.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, May 6, 2022 in Meadowview Community Hall from 1-3 p.m. Donations in memory may be made to the Meadowview Development Association.
