Frederick Joseph Royal

Frederick Joseph Royal, formerly of New Minas, passed away peacefully with family by his side at Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville on Monday, May 9, 2022. Born in Florence, Cape Breton Island, he was a son of the late Jack and Ella Royal.

Fred moved to the Annapolis Valley at the age of 15, where he worked at Paramont Hotel and met his loving wife of 55 years, Gloria (Schofield). He worked at RW DeWolfe’s in Wolfville before taking a position at Weavexx in Kentville where he worked for 26 years. Fred worked for over 10 years at Stirling’s Fruit Farms in Greenwich.

Fred was known and loved by many in the community. He loved going for weekend drives, yard-saling with his wife and indulging in Chinese food. Fred’s family was the light of his life.

Fred is survived by his loving wife, Gloria; two children, Michael Royal of New Minas and Cindy Royal (Kenneth Parquette) of Kentville; six grandchildren, Josie Royal, of Wolfville; Dylan Royal (Jamie Dorey) of Falmouth; Morgan Royal (Kevin Rockett) of Cornwall, PE; Kaitlin Royal of Port Williams; William Parquette of Kentville; and Nimue Royal of New Minas; three great grandchildren, Cameron and Brayden States of Kentville; and Elliana Bilsborrow of Port Williams; and siblings, Gilbert (Kathy) Royal of Howie Center; Evelyn Fifield of Sydney; and Wayne (Cathy) Royal of Canning. Predeceased by his parents, granddaughter Skye States, and siblings, Jack Royal, Isabelle Spinney, Maxwell Royal, and Debbie Leblanc.

Fred along with his family sincerely thank the Victorian Order of Nurses. Donations in honour may be made to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation and the Canadian Lung Association. A celebration of Fred’s life will be held from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 14 in the Gaspereau Community Hall.
